On Thursday afternoon, Phillies starter Cole Hamels was hit in the glove hand by a comebacker off the bat of Adrian Gonzalez. Hamels finished the play and finished the fourth inning, but he was removed for the fifth, replaced by David Herndon.

The early word was that Hamels had a right hand contusion. However, he was taken for x-rays, as the Phillies wanted to make sure nothing was broken. With that in mind, hey, good news! Jerry Crasnick:

So Hamels is fine. Or, he isn’t fine - his right hand probably really hurts a lot - but he’s as fine as you can be after Adrian Gonzalez hits a baseball at you really hard.
In the end, then, the only consequence of this incident for the Phillies is that it forced Hamels out of a game in which he was pitching a shutout. Hamels left with the score 0-0. Herndon allowed two runs in the next inning.
