Angels Activate Howie Kendrick From DL

Earlier in May, Angels infielder Howie Kendrick made a move to left field to fill in for the injured Vernon Wells. Not long after that, Kendrick developed discomfort in his hamstring that some figured was a consequence of his playing an unfamiliar position. Kendrick had to go on the DL, joining Wells, which was a blow to the Angels' lineup given that Kendrick had been hitting well.

But on Saturday, Kendrick is back. He wound up missing the minimum amount of time, as his injury was never particularly severe. He is to resume playing left field, at least until Wells comes back, at which point the roster situation will be re-evaluated.

Reggie Willits was sent to AAA to clear room for Kendrick. Willits played sparingly, with Bobby Abreu and Alexi Amarista also having filled in in left. Kendrick returns to a .908 OPS and seven home runs, which is the third-highest total on the team behind Mark Trumbo and Torii Hunter.
