NCAA Baseball Super Regionals 2011, Score Update: Texas A&M Defeats Arizona To Advance

The 2011 NCAA Baseball Tournament had just one game today, with the Texas A&M Aggies and the Arizona Wildcats playing in the College Station regional for the final spot in the Super Regionals. Both starting pitchers were fantastic, but ultimately the difference was A&M’s bullpen, along with Arizona’s poor base running, as the Aggies advanced to the Super Regionals, winning by a score of 3-0.

The game was scheduled for yesterday, but was cancelled due to lightning. Fortunately for both teams, they were able to give their pitchers a day of rest, and today’s weather was perfect for baseball. Aggies starter Michael Wacha was very good in his seven scoreless innings, but the hits he allowed were bunched together. Arizona’s offense got it going in the 5th inning, but Jett Bandy was thrown out at home, somehow failing to score from third base on a Alex Mejia single. The errors continued in the 6th, as Bryce Ortega was picked off at first base.

Arizona starter Kurt Heyer finally lost his stuff in the eighth inning after a great start to his outing, as he gave up a run and got pulled for Bryce Bandilla. He wouldn’t fare any better as he would give up two runs of his own, one of which Heyer was responsible for.

Texas A&M advances to the Tallahassee Super Regional, where they will take on hosts Florida State in a Saturday-Sunday-Monday series.
