Fulham has found its new manager and its a man who made his mark in the Premier League just across the city. The Cottagers have appointed Martin Jol to lead the club four years after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutchman has signed a two-year deal with the club to replace Mark Highes with an option to extend it for a further year.
Fulham Name Martin Jol New Manager
“I am very happy to join Fulham, a wonderful traditional club,” said Jol. “It is a club with good, solid foundations and a great fanbase. I am looking forward to being part of the Fulham family and thank the chairman for the trust he’s shown in me.”
Jol had a great deal of success at Spurs, finishing as high as fifth in 2006 for the club’s highest finish in 16 years. After his time in London, Jol moved to Hamburg for a year before spending 18 months with Ajax, where he won the Dutch Cup.
He joins a Fulham club that finished eighth in the league last season, a year after finishing 12th, but making a dream run to the final of the Europa League. The Cottagers have spent the last couple years as one of England’s better defensive teams, which fits in well with Jol, whose teams are usually stingy at the back.
