Floyd Mayweather Jr. is returning to boxing. Mayweather announced via Twitter that he would be stepping back in the ring this September to face Victor Ortiz.
Floyd Mayweather Will Fight Victor Ortiz In September In Return To Boxing
My fans have been waiting long enough. Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz. Sept-17 2011 for the WBC World Championship.Mayweather, who has an undefeated 41-0 record and is widely considered one of the finest boxers of this generation, hasn’t fought since a May 2010 defeat of Shane Mosley. Ortiz, who is 29-2-2 and the current WBC welterweight champion, claimed the title belt with an April 2011 victory over Andre Berto.
Mayweather’s return against Ortiz, a mid-sized name at best, may be evidence that the man many call “Money” is looking to line his coffers against lesser competition while continuing to duck the mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao that boxing fans have demanded for years. But Ortiz could just be a tune-up for Mayweather on his way to Pacquiao, too.
