White Sox righthanded starter Jake Peavy took a long road to come back from an unusual injury last year, even undergoing what was described as “experimental” surgery.
Jake Peavy Injury: White Sox Place Righthander On DL, Recall Lucas Harrell
He was doing fine until Sunday, when he suffered a groin injury in a start against the Tigers. Originally, the Sox said he was “day-to-day”, but today, they placed Peavy on the DL, retroactive to Monday, June 6, and recalled righthander Lucas Harrell from Triple-A Charlotte.
Harrell is 4-3 with a 3.25 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 10 games (nine starts) with Charlotte so far this year. He has pitched one game for the White Sox this season; he was recalled from Charlotte and threw the final four innings against the Blue Jays in Toronto on May 29, allowing four runs in four innings.
Harrell will wear uniform No. 58 and made three starts and eight total appearances with a 4.88 ERA with the Sox in 2010. The Sox don’t have a starter yet listed for Friday, which would be Peavy’s turn; it seems likely Harrell will take that turn.
