Dustin Pedroia Injury: Knee Merely Bruised, Might Play Friday

Earlier Thursday, Terry Francona said of Dustin Pedroia, “I fully expect him to be hitting second tomorrow.”

Well, this evening Francona’s looking like a combination of Miss Cleo and Nostradamus.

Pedroia saw his physician today, and the news about his bum knee could hardly be better. Sean McAdam:

Pedroia exam complete. Finding: just bruised knee cap, expected in lineup tomorrow.

Pedroia playing is better than Pedroia not playing, especially with Jed Lowrie and Marco Scutaro both ailing. He’s not been putting on much of a laser show this season, but he’s still drawing walks and hitting with some pop, which just leaves everyone in Red Sox Nation to hope the batting average comes around at some point. The Red Sox are in first place and they’ve been playing quite well for some weeks now, but it’s still not easy to imagine them winning 95 games without an effective Pedroia for most of the season.
