Josh Williams is probably not a name the average follower of Major League Soccer will recognize. Up until Wednesday, he was best known for, well, nothing really. He had signed with the Columbus Crew in 2010 after a reasonably successful collegiate career at Cleveland State, but had yet to appear in a regular-season match. Now, he's been suspended 10 games and fined 10 percent of his salary after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, methandienone metabolites.
Columbus Crew Defender Josh Williams Suspended For Using Performance Enhancing Drugs
“There is no place in sport for performance enhancing drugs,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in a statement. “We continue to hold our players responsible and accountable for everything they ingest in order to ensure the integrity of our competition.”
The release says Williams tested positive after ingesting an over-the-counter supplement he purchased at a national chain store. The supplement apparently contained the banned substance.
During the suspension Williams is not allowed to participate in any other competitions.
