The 2011 MLB Futures Game got underway with a bang in the bottom of the first inning when USA and Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis sent a 95 mph fastball by World and Atlanta Braves RHP Julio Teheran over the right field wall for a 1-0 lead. Teheran then sent the next three batters down in order. He got Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper to strike out while looking on a mid-90s fastball.

USA struck again in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Royals OF Wil Myers grounded into a force out with men on the corners, scoring Devin Mesoraco.
Arizona Diamondbacks LHP Tyler Skaggs drew the start for Team USA and he allowed a double and a walk, but escaped otherwise unscathed. Washington Nationals RHP Brad Peacock had a 1-2-3 inning for USA before Shelby Miller replaced him in the third inning.
