Former Notre Dame, Denver Broncos Defensive Lineman Pete Duranko Dies Of ALS

Pete Duranko, a defensive lineman on Notre Dame's 1966 national championship team who went on to play eight years for the Denver Broncos, has died of Lou Gehrig's disease at the age of 67.

Originally from Johnston, Pa., Duranko started at defensive tackle for the Fighting Irish in ‘65 and ‘66. He had 73 tackles his senior year for a defense that only allowed 3.8 points per game and had six shutouts.

He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 4th rounds of the NFL draft and the Denver Broncos in the 2nd round of the AFL draft. He decided to play for the Broncos and played defensive end/linebacker for them between 1967 and 1974.

He was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame and earned his Master's degree from St. Francis College.
