Eric Godard Signed By Dallas Stars To Two-Year Deal

The Dallas Stars have signed 31-year-old right winger Eric Godard to a two-year, $1.45 million contract, according to the Sporting News.

Godard is known as an enforcer, and played 19 games as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, accumulating 105 penalty minutes and a 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to fight in a game against the New York Islanders.

The journeyman has previously played for the Islanders from 2002-2004 and in 2005-2006, with a stint for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL sandwiched in between. He's been in the NHL consistently since 2006, when he played two seasons for the Calgary Flames before moving to Pittsburgh.

Godard holds the record for most career penalty minutes for the Sound Tigers with 705, as well as the single-season record with 295, set in the ‘04-‘05 campaign.

Godard will battle with Krys Barch for playing time in Dalllas. If Godard is sent down to the minor leagues next season, the Stars will only owe him $150,000, according to the Sporting News.
