There was, of course, much gasping when Blue Jays man-god Jose Bautista injured his ankle sliding into third base in a game against the Yankees Thursday night. Bautista went down to the ground and appeared to be in considerable agony before mustering the strength to walk off under his own power.
Jose Bautista Injury But A Minor Matter
But Bautista was soon thereafter labeled day-to-day, and as John Lott writes, he could and should be back either Sunday or Tuesday:
Jose Bautista says he is "feeling much better," and his manager says he may return to the Toronto Blue Jays lineup within a few days.
Bautista, the major-league home run leader, said on Twitter Friday that his ankle injury is "just a sprain," that he feels better and that he was "getting treatment as I tweet!"
Bautista’s injury hasn’t gotten any worse with the passage of time, in that there’s no new swelling or stiffness. The Blue Jays are so unconcerned that they didn’t even order an MRI, which says something given that MRI exams are handed out to baseball teams like candy. Brian Cashman just stuck his head in one to see what it’s like. Whirr! Click click whirr!
Edwin Encarnacion is playing third base for Toronto Friday night, and he will probably play third base for Toronto on Saturday, too, but come Sunday, Bautista should return. And if not then, then almost certainly on Tuesday. Just in time for a series against the Mariners!, I write objectively.
