Two Thursdays ago, speedy Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos was on top of the world when he drilled a double against the Mariners. Bourjos' triumph was short-lived, however, as he aggressively rounded second, then pulled up lame going back to the bag. Bourjos was removed from that game, and now, two Fridays later, he's being given an extended break:
Peter Bourjos Injury: Angels OF Finally Lands On DL With Hamstring Strain
#Angels put Bourjos on DL. Amarista on his way from Triple A. Retro move. Will be eligible to return next Saturday.
The Angels didn’t think Bourjos would require a DL stint at first, especially with the All-Star break coming up. They planned to just give him the weekend off. However, Bourjos experienced a setback during a Thursday workout, necessitating this move.
Given that Bourjos owns a .720 OPS and was playing terrific defense in center field, he's been a big part of the Angels' success, and he'll be missed during his absence. However, he shouldn't be out too much longer, and playing in his stead is the electrifying, hyper-talented Mike Trout. So while a lot of Angels fans and officials would like to see Bourjos return, on some level they'd probably prefer that he takes his time.
