Wolfsburg have officially announced the signing of defender Marco Russ from Eintracht Frankfurt. The transfer fee was not disclosed, but the amount is believed to be €3.5 million.
Wolfsburg Sign Marco Russ From Eintracht Frankfurt
Russ, 25, makes the move from Frankfurt where he spent 15 years in the youth ranks and as part of the professional team. Since making his professional debut in 2004, Russ made a total of 159 appearances in the Bundesliga. For the last few seasons he was an anchor at centerback for Frankfurt, and Felix Magath will expect the same kind of performances from him. He will be partnered in the middle at Wolfsburg with Denmark's Simon Kjær.
Manager Felix Magath told the official Wolfsburg website, “Our interest in Marco was already known for some time. He is a player who has proven over a long period in his original club and with his strengths and his personality fits very well into our team.”
Russ is the second player from Eintracht Frankfurt that Wolfsburg has paid a transfer fee this transfer window. Earlier in the summer, midfielder Patrick Ochs made the move to the Wolves.
