Though the NFL Lockout appears just about over, that doesn't mean there won't be players holding out during training camp over new contract disputes. Just don't include Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver Reggie Wayne in that group. Wayne, who is in the last year of a six-year, $39 million contract, plans on reporting to training camp as soon as it starts.
Reggie Wayne Shoots Down Contract Holdout Talk
“I’m a Colt. What else I’m gonna be?” Wayne said, dismissing a question about a possible camp holdout. “I’m going to go to work. That’s what I do.”
When the Colts address Wayne's future with the team is uncertain. Once the lockout ends, the Colts will need to commit a large portion of their remaining salary cap space to free agent quarterback Peyton Manning and running back Joseph Addai.
But Wayne, who will receive $5.95 million for the 2011 season, has a strong case for a nice, new contract, having 100-plus receptions in three of the last four seasons and averaging eight touchdowns over that time. If Wayne does hit the open market in 2012, he would be considered the No. 2 receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald.
