A week and a half ago, Orioles reliever Kevin Gregg brushed back Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and gestured at him after a pop-up, so Ortiz charged the mound and started a brawl. The two players were issued four-game suspensions, but after appealing, their suspensions have been reduced:
David Ortiz, Kevin Gregg To Serve Three-Game Suspensions
In Baltimore, Orioles.com reported that Ortiz and Orioles pitcher Kevin Gregg would have their suspensions reduced to three games starting tomorrow.
Both Ortiz and Gregg will miss three games, and so both Ortiz and Gregg will miss all three games of a three-game rematch between the two teams that starts on Monday. Not a bad way for this all to work out, as another confrontation will thus be avoided.
In Ortiz's place on Monday, the Red Sox have Jacoby Ellsbury lined up to DH, with J.D. Drew in right, Josh Reddick in center, and Carl Crawford returning and playing left. In Gregg's place on Monday, the Orioles will use an equivalent or superior reliever.
