Ryan Vogelsong’s Equipment Malfunction

Ryan Vogelsong pitched brilliantly Monday night. Yes, again. But he did it without his AIDS ribbon. Some years back, a Giants reliever named Mark Dewey wore his ribbon sideways as a protest to the event. He considered himself a Christian and took the wrong-headed view that supporting AIDS research was tantamount to support the "homosexual agenda."

Mark Dewey was on my Strat-O-Matic team -- the Troy (Kansas) Haymakers -- for at least one season, and was one of my more dependable reliefers. If only I had known ...
