The New Jersey Devils will name their next head coach at the Prudential Center in Newark on Tuesday afternoon. They've called a 3:30 p.m. ET press conference to make the announcement.
New Jersey Devils To Name Next Head Coach Tuesday
About a million different names have been thrown around over the course of the last few months -- anybody from Ken Hitchcock to Guy Carbonneau to Michel Therrien to another stint with Jacques Lemaire. Darren Dreger of TSN has reported, quite shockingly in fact, that former Florida Panthers head coach Peter DeBoer is in the running as well.
He also has reported that DeBoer turned down opportunities in Calgary and Detroit recently, which would obviously be an indication that he’s in the running for a head coaching gig somewhere. It would make sense.
But would it make sense for the Devils? Who knows, really. After last season, when John MacLean was fired after the team ran itself into the ground in the first half before Lemaire came back and brought them within striking range of the postseason, it’s tough to get a solid read on where the Devils stand.
Regardless, this is obviously a huge decision, and the Devils will announce what they’ve done at 3:30 ET. For more on the Devils, check in with SB Nation’s In Lou We Trust.
