If you’re young -- I mean, exceptionally young, like maybe six or seven -- you might not remember this, so a quick little history lesson ... Not so long ago, the rap on the Rangers was that they could hit, but no matter what they tried they couldn’t pitch. Prospects didn’t pan out, free agents flamed out, and it was either management’s fault or maybe the Texas heat just made the entire project impracticable.
Texas Pitchers Key 12-Game Winning Streak

Until 2010, when Texas pitchers finished the season with a 3.93 ERA, fourth-best in the American League. Not coincidentally, the Rangers also won a postseason series -- two of them, actually -- for the first time in the franchise’s 50-year history.
This year their ERA's even better, and after last night's shutout of the Angels, the Rangers have
- allowed two runs in their last 56 innings, and
- won 12 straight games, just two shy of the franchise record.
For years, a perennial question in the American League West was, "What would happen if the Texas Rangers could put together a good pitching staff?"
