Kris Jenkins, once considered to be one of the best defensive players in the NFL, has reportedly decided to retire. The four-time Pro Bowl nose tackle first tore his ACL in 2009 and then tore it again in 2010. He was released by the New York Jets earlier this year. He has played just seven games over the past two years.

Prior to his injuries, Jenkins was one of the top run-stoppers in the league. The University of Maryland product appeared in all 16 games as a rookie in 2001, before taking over as a full-time starter in 2002. That year he earned his first Pro Bowl selection after registering seven sacks and making 36 tackles for the Carolina Panthers. He followed that up with another Pro Bowl season, this time helping lead the Panthers to Super Bowl XXXVIII which they lost to the New England Patriots.
A shoulder injury cost him most of the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but he returned to the Pro Bowl in 2006. He was eventually traded to the Jets where he contended for Defensive Player of the Year with a standout 2008 campaign.
