Last week a report emerged that the NFL had decided to cancel the annual Hall of Fame in Canton on Aug. 7. We found out shortly after that that the game is, as of now, still on. The NFL lockout is the problem and if a deal between the owners and players isn’t struck sometime soon that game could be in jeopardy.
Hall Of Fame Game Between Rams, Bears Hasn’t Been Canceled
But for the moment the game has yet to be canceled, according to CSN Chicago.
And a contact with folks in Canton confirms that the Hall of Fame game set for Aug. 7 between the Bears and St. Louis Rams has not been cancelled by the NFL but that a decision is expected to be relayed to them later this week.
The big news is that they expect a decision later in the week, presumably after Thursday when the owners are expected to vote on the new labor agreement.
The report suggests that, even if a new labor agreement is struck this week, the game could still be canceled. If the owners and players approve a new deal by Thursday, it’s possible training camps don’t start until the first of August or so. That would give the Bears and Rams less than a week to prepare for the first preseason game.
This game is always the first game of the season so we hope it goes down, no matter how sloppy it will be.
