Ohio State Football Won’t Face New Violations For Jim Tressel Scandals

The Ohio State Buckeyes will not face any new violations from the NCAA for Jim Tressel's involvement in several scandals surrounding his former football team, reports the Columbus Dispatch. According to an NCAA report the Dispatch obtained:

"Other than (two redacted player names) and (Ted) Sarniak, there is no indication that Tressel provided or discussed the information he received ... with anyone else, particularly athletics administrators," the NCAA reported in an enforcement staff case summary.

The NCAA could have ruled that the school lost institutional control of the football team and failed to monitor the program.

On Friday, the university released transcripts of a five-hour interview that it had with Jim Tressel in February after the Dispatch entered a public request for them. Found in the transcript, Tressel said that he informed Julie Vannatta, legal counsel in the athletics department, on Dec. 16 that he received a tip on possible violations by his players. However, Vannatta and other officials deny this and state that it was a month later until they knew of Tressel's knowledge in the matter.

During an Aug. 12 meeting, the NCAA can still impose tougher penalties than those Ohio State self-administered
