Landon Donovan was expected to start the MLS All-Star Game for the league's squad that will take on Manchester United, but he's not going to play at all due to a calf injury that will force him to miss the match. The injury kept him out of the LA Galaxy's friendly against Manchester City on Sunday, but it is not considered a serious injury. With the Galaxy in the midst of a stretch that sees them play 11 times in 42 days, Donovan decided it was better off to sit out the All-Star Game.
Landon Donovan To Miss MLS All-Star Game With Calf Injury
The best of MLS will be at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on Wednesday for the match, but it won't quite be the very best without Donovan, a MLS MVP who has been named MLS Best XI four times and has five MLS All-Star Game goals. Even so, a team with Brek Shea, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, Brad Davis, Shalrie Joseph and Omar Bravo will give MLS more than enough to try and take down United in another match of the Red Devils' preseason tour of the U.S.
