Russ Cochran fired a five-under 67 on Sunday to win the Senior British Open Championship by two strokes.
Cochran finished at 12-under-par 276. This was his third Champions Tour title, but first in a major.
The 52-year-old Cochran's lone PGA Tour title was at the 1991 Western Open.
"I think that it's a big hump that I got over. I had a couple of chances earlier in the year, and I didn't follow through with it," Cochran said in a television interview. "I think to do it in a major on this golf course, it just means so much."
Mark Calcavecchia posted a three-under 69 to end alone in second. The 1989 British Open champion had taken the lead on the front nine, but was done in by a four-putt double-bogey on No. 9. Calcavecchia ended at 10-under-par 278.
Tom Watson matched Cochran's 67 to share third place at minus-nine. Watson, a five-time British Open and three-time Senior British Open champion, was joined in third place at Walton Heath by Corey Pavin, who closed with a 69.
