According to Joel Sherman, we can add the Pirates, Reds, and Nationals to the list of teams interested in B.J. Upton.
As I noted earlier today, Upton's value goes down if he's not playing center field, and Cincinnati (Drew Stubbs) and Pittsburgh (Andrew McCutchen) are both perfectly well set in center. Granted, both teams could use help in the corners -- the Reds in left, the Pirates in both -- but this just doesn't seem a perfect fit, particularly given the possibility that Upton struggles defensively while learning to play a new position.
The Nationals are intriguing, though. They've had a black hole in center field since trading Nyjer Morgan and replacing him (mostly) with Rick Ankiel (?). Upton would represent a one- or two-year year solution, and the Nationals have plenty of what every team -- including the Rays -- covets: pitching prospects.
Nearly all of the teams with supposed interest in Upton are contenders ... but a deal might make the most sense for the non-contending Nationals.
