NL Free Agency: Bears Will Not Re-Sign Punter Brad Maynard

For the first time in a decade, the Chicago Bears will have a punter not named Brad Maynard.

The Chicago Bears have informed veteran punter Brad Maynard that they do not intend to sign him.

Maynard's career began briefly with the New York Giants but he's spent the last ten seasons kicking for the Bears.

Despite a career that currently makes him the second all-time in the NFL with 407 career punts inside the 20-yard line, he’s coming off a disappointing season in which he finished 32nd in the league in punt average (40.1 yards) and 29th in net average (35.2).

Maynard recovered from right hip surgery last season, though the injury clearly affected his punting.

No word on Maynard’s future plans but most suspect his best bet would be with an indoor team from here on out.

For more reaction from the Chicago Bears, keep a close eye on Windy City Gridiron.
