Until late last week, Jordan Schafer had been the Braves' every-day center fielder for nearly two months. But Schafer's got a finger injury, now diagnosed as a slight bone chip, and according to Dave O'Brien he might have to miss a significant chunk of time:
Jordan Schafer Injury: More Pressure On Braves To Trade?
Schafer's finger is still bothering him, #Braves CF is going to be scrached from lineup and might have to go on DL
Look, it’s not like Schafer’s been exactly tearing things up. His batting line this season -- .234/.300/.313 -- is essentially the same as his 2009 line, which got him exiled to the minors for a full season-and-a-half. Frankly, the Braves would be better with almost anyone else in the lineup; if a stint on the Disabled List is what it takes to get manager Fredi Gonzalez to stop writing Schafer’s name on the lineup card -- usually in the leadoff slot, no less -- maybe this whole thing is a blessing in disguise. With all due respect.
With Schafer out, Nate McLouth's been playing center field, and he'll undoubtedly continue to play center field until and unless the Braves trade for a center fielder, with B.J. Upton one of the names that's come up.
