NFL Free Agency: Nate Davis Signs Two-Year Deal With Colts, According To Report

The Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent quarterback Nate Davis, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Davis was a fifth-round draft pick of the 49ers in 2009, but was cut after training camp last year, and signed on with their practice squad two days later. He was signed to a futures contract in January by the Seahawks, but was cut in March.

Davis joins Curtis Painter and undrafted rookie Mike Hartline of Kentucky as insurance while Peyton Manning recovers from his neck injury.

Davis was the Midwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year at Ball State in his final season and posted back-to-back 3,500-plus-yard, 26-plus-touchdown seasons in 2007 and 2008. He has worlds of talent, which is why the Colts went out on a limb with that second year.
