Jeret Peterson, Olympic Medalist In Freestyle Skiing, Dead Of Apparent Suicide, According To Report
Salt Lake City area police report that Peterson, who was cited for alleged drunk driving on Friday, called 9-1-1 Monday evening, and later shot himself. His body was found at Lambs Canyon, between SLC and Park City, Utah.
Peterson won the silver medal in Vancouver for Team USA after finishing seventh in 2006 at Turin. In 2006, he was sent home by the American team after an alleged alcohol-infused altercation in the athletes’ village. Peterson also competed in World Cup competition, and the Associated Press reports he was arrested on suspicion of burglary in 2005, and plead guilty to lesser charges.
Peterson’s signature move was called the Hurricane: it consisted of three flips and five spins, and it was the move that landed Speedy the silver in Vancouver (and also, by virtue of not landing it, dropped him from third to seventh in Turin).
