NFL Free Agency 2011: Takeo Spikes Signs Three-Year Deal With Chargers

The San Diego Chargers announced they have signed veteran LB Takeo Spikes to a three-year contract Tuesday, coming in a rash of defensive acquisitions. The team also announced the signings of Jeromey Clary, Randy McMichael and Bob Sanders.

Spikes had a renaissance year with the San Francisco 49ers last season, recording 109 tackles and three interceptions. He will be reunited with Chargers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, who coached him in San Francisco.

"It's going to be great playing for Coach Manusky again," Spikes said in the release. "One of the intangibles that I bring is my leadership. Even though everybody is from different places across America, to me I feel like the great ones bring everybody together and believe in the same common goal, and that's to win a championship. That's why I'm in San Diego."

Spikes, 34, was an All-Pro in 2003 and 2004 with the Bills, and has also played for the Eagles and Bengals in his 13-year career.
