The Carolina Panthers have had no problem spending money in free agency so far. First, they wrapped up DE Charles Johnson to a reported $76 million deal. Second, they signed RB DeAngelo Williams to a $43 million deal.
K Olindo Mare Gets Big-Money Deal From Carolina Panthers, According To Report
Now they're getting kickers into the action. Pro Football Talk reports K Olindo Mare agreed to a four-year deal worth a whopping $12 million. The deal, per the report, includes a $4 million signing bonus.
That’s big-time money for a kicker on the open market.
Mare has been in the league for what seems like forever. Originally picked up by the Miami Dolphins in 1997, Mare spent 11 seasons in Miami before moving to the New Orleans Saints for one year. He spent the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
The deal with the Panthers can’t be consummated until Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ET) when free agency starts.
