DE Ray McDonald will once again be lining up at left defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers. According to the Sacramento Bee, McDonald the 49ers came to terms on a five-year, $20 million contract with $7 million guaranteed. That's a nice chunk of change for someone who hasn't started a game in two years.
Ray McDonald Returns To San Francisco 49ers, According To Report
The Sacramento Bee reports this likely means McDonald is coming back as a starter.
The contract is considered “starter’s money,” which likely means that McDonald’s days of a backup are over. McDonald started nine games for the 49ers in 2008, but did not start any games the past two seasons.
Things may be a little more difficult for McDonald when he returns to the 49ers defensive line because early reports suggest NT Aubrayo Franklin won't remain in San Francisco.
McDonald can’t officially sign his new deal until Friday night at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
