The 2012 London Olympics Medals Are The Games’ Biggest Ever

The London Olympics in 2012 are one year away, which means we’re officially at the point in the Olympic hype cycle when “official” becomes part of every new press release. Thus, here are the official London Olympics medals:

↵They’re the biggest medals in Olympic history, checking in at 85 millimeters across, and are the heaviest Summer Games medals at 400 grams each, dwarfing the 231-gram medals awarded in Barcelona in 1992. Only the massive medals from Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Games are larger in the span of Olympic medal history.
