Mike Peterson Says He’s Returning To Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are keeping their linebackers in place. Earlier this week they agreed to terms with LB Stephen Nicholas and now LB Mike Peterson writes on Twitter that he's returning to the Falcons.

SB Nation Atlanta suggests Peterson’s likely getting a short-term deal.

Stephen Nicholas agreed to a five-year deal the day before, so anything more than a year or two for Peterson would be kind of surprising. In Curtis Lofton, Sean Weatherspoon, Nicholas and perhaps Akeem Dent and others, the team has a number of skilled young linebackers. Not to mention important secondary and offensive line players to re-sign.

There’s nothing wrong with keeping a few guys on a team as good as the Falcons were last year.

Peterson's 35 years old so he's not spring-chicken, which is why a short-term deal makes more sense. He's played for the Colts, Jaguars and Falcons in his 13-year career.
