Phillip Daniels Released By Washington Redskins

Phillip Daniels was released by the Washington Redskins on Thursday, he announced on Twitter, as the team continues to make rampant personnel changes following the end of the NFL lockout.

Along with Daniels, Albert Haynesworth, Donovan McNabb and Casey Rabach have all been traded or released over the past couple of days.

Daniels didn’t exactly prove himself necessary this past season with the Redskins as he had just 15 tackles and two sacks in his 14 games played for Washington, but the veteran presence he provides will assuredly be missed in the team’s locker room.

Daniels played six seasons with the Redskins after joining the team as a 31-year-old free agent prior to the 2004 season after beginning his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 1996 as fourth-round draft pick.

It isn’t clear what Daniels next step is as he tweeted just an hour before his release that he was headed to take a physical, but as one of the veterans in the league, hopefully he’s able to find a way to leave on his own terms.
