The latest team to sign its first round draft pick is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have agreed to a contract with QB Blaine Gabbert, according to a report.
Jaguars, Rookie QB Blaine Gabbert Reportedly Agree To Terms
ESPN’s über-reporter Adam Schefter reports that Gabbert is practicing with the team, so this must have been in the works for a while...or rather, a while with regards to the 2011 NFL offseason, which means a few hours.
Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but based on other first-round deals that have surfaced thus far, it’s reasonable to assume a large portion of the contract is guaranteed.
Gabbert will attempt to wrest the starting QB job away from David Garrard, and he appears to plan to do so by being substantially more punctual than the veteran.
Garrard set a career high in completion percentage last season, connecting on 64.5 percent of his passes. However, that was likely a result of wimping out, as he averaged fewer yards per game than any season since 2006.
