Ray Edwards Gets Five-Year Deal From Falcons, According To Report

Free agent DE Ray Edwards has found his next home in Atlanta. According to Jay Glazer, the Falcons have agreed to terms with Edwards, who left the Minnesota Vikings for free agency. Glazer reports it's a five-year deal and we don't know the terms yet.

Edwards can’t officially sign the deal until Friday night at 6:00 p.m. (ET) and, according to the new labor deal, can’t practice until Aug. 4.

The Falcons released DE Jamaal Anderson early Friday morning so Edwards' signing makes more sense now.

Edwards was one of the players who, if the 2010 season weren’t an uncapped year, would have been a free agent last year. He was the Vikings fourth round pick in the 2006 draft and has been waiting to get his long-term deal. Apparently, he now has it.

Edwards has been solid in Minnesota for a few years. He had 8.5 sacks in 2009 and 8 sacks in 2010 proving he can rush the passer. The key now will be doing it without the Williams Wall and Jared Allen sitting on the other side.
