Ty Warren Released By New England Patriots

Didn't see this move coming: the New England Patriots announced the release of DE Ty Warren on Friday afternoon.

Warren was injured for all of the 2010 season after suffering a hip injury and originally came to the Patriots in 2003 as their first round draft pick. For six years, he and DE Richard Seymour held down the Patriots defensive line so I'm a bit surprised to see his release.

It’s also possible, given other moves the Patriots have made lately, that Warren is being released and his deal is being re-done so he can return. There’s no evidence that’s the case but it’s possible.

I also wonder how the Albert Haynesworth acquisition played into this. He played defensive end in the Redskins 3-4 defense last year (when he wanted to, at least) so it's possible they're bracing him for that role.

The Patriots announced the release of several more players including TE Alge Crumpler and OT Nick Kaczur so they're making quite a few moves this week.

Check out Pats Pulpit for the latest on the Pats cuts.
