The Atlanta Braves were already interested in adding offensive help in advance of the trade deadline. Then Brian McCann got hurt. Then Jordan Schafer got hurt. Now this:
Nate McLouth Injury: Braves Outfielder On DL With Abdominal Strain
The Atlanta Braves’ injury problems became more severe on Friday when the team placed outfielder Nate McLouth on the 15-day disabled list with a lower abdominal strain.
Suffice to say there’s a little more urgency now in the Braves’ front office.
McLouth hurt himself making a throw, and the .228 hitter will now be out of action for at least a couple weeks. This’ll be McLouth’s second stint on the DL this season, and the second injury to his core. The team won’t badly miss his .677 OPS, but he was playing for a reason.
To take his spot on the roster, the Braves promoted Jose Constanza and designated Diory Hernandez for assignment. Constanza - who's batting leadoff on Friday! - is a speedy 27-year-old outfielder who has a .712 OPS in triple-A, but desperate times and all that. He's playing center in between Eric Hinske and Jason Heyward.
The Braves are hoping to have a new outfielder by Sunday afternoon. Just who that might be, it’s hard to say, but he’ll be welcomed with open arms.
