Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, who is expected to be named to the NL All-Star team as a starter Sunday afternoon (and possibly will be the leading votegetter), will miss Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins after injuring his left calf during Saturday's game, according to a report on milwaukeebrewers.com:
Ryan Braun Injury: Brewers Outfielder Strains Calf, Will Miss Sunday’s Game
Braun hit a run-scoring groundout, but strained his left calf muscle on his second step out of the batter's box and had to leave the game. He watched from the training table as the Brewers scored four runs in the ninth inning to stun the Twins, 8-7, with pinch-hitter George Kottaras delivering the go-ahead hit from Braun's usual spot in the batting order.
"It's pretty tight, pretty sore," Braun said. "I'm definitely not playing [on Sunday]. We'll probably see where it's at in a couple of days."
The injury resembled the one that New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter suffered running out of the batters' box on June 13 -- that injury has now had Jeter out for almost three weeks. The Brewers will likely be quite cautious with Braun, one of their best hitters who has missed only two games this season. Braun is hitting .321/.403/.560 with 18 doubles, 16 home runs and 61 RBI.
