Florida State WR Taiwan Easterling Leaves School For Baseball Career
Florida State wide receiver Taiwan Easterling, who was second on the Seminoles with five touchdown catches last season, announced he has signed a professional contract with the Chicago Cubs and will not return to school.
"Taiwan and I talked and he's decided to pursue his career in baseball," said FSU football coach Jimbo Fisher. "I totally support him 100 percent. He did an outstanding job for us.
"I would have loved to have him back, but I totally understand him pursuing his future endeavors. Baseball is the way for him to go and we wish him nothing but the best."
Easterling, an outfielder, was selected in the 27th round of this year's MLB Draft. A walk-on on FSU's baseball team, he batted .296 with five doubles and 19 RBI in 55 games this season.
Easterling came to FSU on a football scholarship and had one year of eligibility remaining in both football and baseball. He leaves as one of the most productive receivers in program history. He compiled 108 receptions - 18th in FSU history - for 1,315 yards and eight touchdowns.

Easterling was not considered a starter by most, but did have an important role in the offense. Jared Haggins, Kenny Shaw, Greg Dent and Christian Green will all battle to fill Easterling's spot. The deciding factor will be mental ability, as Easterling's role was to find the voids in the zone and read coverages.
