So much for that open-mindedness. It was reported earlier on Saturday that Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda was "open" to being traded to the Red Sox, Yankees, or Rangers; he might not let his no-trade clause stand in the way. Well, turns out that was incorrect. Or maybe Kuroda changed his mind. In any case, Dylan Hernandez:
MLB Trade Rumors: Hiroki Kuroda To Remain With Dodgers
Kuroda told #Dodgers he intends to remain with them for the rest of the season.
So Kuroda isn’t going anywhere. The temptation in cases like this is to call a player selfish, but the no-trade clause was part of the contract that Kuroda and his agent negotiated, and he has every right to use it. He loves Los Angeles, and who are we to say what he should do with his career?
It'll be interesting to see how the Red Sox and Yankees respond. Doug Fister is gone. Jason Marquis is gone. Ubaldo Jimenez may be on the verge of landing in Cleveland. Do they settle for what they have? Do they take another look at Erik Bedard? Do they search elsewhere? Both Theo Epstein and Brian Cashman have seemed intent on adding a starter, but time - and options - are running out.
