The Philadelphia Eagles made the surprise of free agency by signing former Oakland Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha. Even in this day and age when seemingly every piece of news is leaked ahead of time, we can still get that legitimate shock with a move that nobody saw coming.
Asante Samuel Trade Rumors Start With Nnamdi Asomugha Signing With Eagles
The Eagles had previously acquired Arizona Cardinals CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the QB Kevin Kolb trade so, when you pair him with CB Asante Samuel, no one really thought the Eagles would be after another corner. But they were and they went out and signed the big fish.
So the question becomes what happens to Asante Samuel?
He signed a six-year, $57 million deal three years ago and has salaries remaining of $5.9 million (2011), $8.4 million (2012) and $10.4 million (2013). Plenty of folks now think this puts Samuel on the trading block for the Eagles.
This is just speculation but one team that could be interested is the New York Jets. They lost out on the Asomugha sweepstakes and could be thinking about someone like Samuel if CB Antonio Cromartie doesn't return.
So the Eagles made the biggest move of free agency and now one of the league’s better cornerbacks could be on the block because of it.
