The Tennessee Titans made another move in free agency on Saturday night, reportedly signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Barrett Ruud to a contract. Ruud was an unrestricted free agent and seemed to fall out of favor with the Buccaneers, with Tampa Bay refusing to make a long-term commitment to the veteran middle linebacker. On the open market, Ruud reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Titans, and will get a fresh start in Tennessee.
Barrett Ruud Agrees To Contract With Tennessee Titans, According To Report
Ruud is optimistic about the deal, and told reporters he planned to use it as somewhat of a learning experience, gleaning knowledge from Titans’ coordinator Jerry Gray.
“I’m going to come in and learn (Titans’ defensive coordinator) Jerry Gray’s system and just roll with it,” Ruud told the Tennessean.
Since 2007, Ruud started all but one game for the Buccaneers, recording more than 100 tackles in both the 2008 and 2009 season. He’d been a mainstay at the middle linebacker spot, anchoring the Tampa Bay defense over the four-year period. For his career, Ruud has 431 tackles, six interceptions and four forced fumbles.
