There's hope on the horizon for the Kansas City Royals, who boast a tremendous collection of young players. But in the meantime, they're in the midst of their eighth straight losing season, and they've got a 34-50 record.
White Sox Beat Royals On Walk-Off Balk (Video)
Check that, 34-51. Part of being a team that is that bad involves finding creative ways to lose (and, as a Pirates fan, I know this firsthand). The Royals certainly found one on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox.
With a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royals called on reliever Aaron Crow, whose excellent rookie season has been one of the handful of highlights of the Royals' season. A.J. Pierzynski led off the inning with a single, got sacrificed to second, then headed to third on a wild pitch. Crow struck out Mark Teahen and was one out from getting out of the jam, but then ... well, he got called for a balk, sending Pierzynski home with the winning run. It was an ending that would be unusual for most baseball fans, but many Royals fans will see it as all too typical.
