The San Diego Padres got to Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants on Monday, then held on to win 5-3.
Padres Vs. Giants Final Score: Tim Lincecum Takes Loss, San Francisco’s N.L. West Lead Shrinks
The Giants lost a game's worth of ground in the N.L. West race, as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, narrowing San Francisco's division lead to two games.
Tim Lincecum allowed seven hits and three runs and was removed after throwing 93 pitches in five innings. He gave up two of those in the first on a sacrifice fly by Chase Headley and an RBI single by Orlando Hudson. He then gave up an RBI single to Ryan Ludwick in the fifth.
Padres starter Clayton Richard, meanwhile, walked three batters but got through five innings without allowing a run. Ernesto Frieri allowed a two-run homer to Pablo Sandoval in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-2, but San Diego scored in the eighth (on an RBI single by Nick Hundley) and ninth (on a homer by Will Venable) to extend its lead.
The Giants rallied in the bottom of the ninth, and an RBI single by Brandon Crawford and a wild pitch by Heath Bell put the tying run in scoring position, but Bell got Andres Torres and Aaron Rowand to end the threat.
