The Winnipeg Jets will be beginning anew in Canada in the 2011-12 season, but they will do it with former Atlanta Thrashers captain and leading scorer Andrew Ladd, who signed with the Jets on Tuesday.
Andrew Ladd Signs With Winnipeg Jets, Deal Reportedly For 5 Years, $22 Million
Per club policy, terms of the deal were not released, but TSN is reporting that the deal is for five years and worth $22 million. With the deal, the Jets avoided salary arbitration with the 25-year-old Ladd.
Ladd, who was the fourth overall pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2006 NHL Draft and has won two Stanley Cups with the Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks, was traded to the Thrashers in July 2010. Ladd was Atlanta's leading scorer in 2010-11, netting 29 goals and recording 59 points, both career highs, in 81 games. No other Thrasher had more than 21 goals, and only Dustin Byfuglien joined Ladd on the 20-goal plateau.
