Marko Perovic Has Harsh Words For New England Revolution

If Marko Perovic's release from the New England Revolution, supposedly by his request, seemed a bit odd, be assured that you weren't the only one feeling that way. The Bent Mukset, SB Nation's Revolution blog, was among those who thought it didn't all quite add up, and got in touch with Perovic via Facebook.

While Perovic’s written English is far from perfect, he made it pretty clear that he had a significantly different perspective regarding his departure than the previously stated company line. He seemed to indicate that he had been promised a raise when his contract expired and was upset when he was not offered one. Being as he was hurt and in no position to negotiate, he likened the situation to “blackmail.” The Bent Musket summed it up this way:

The official team stance is that he had two and a half years left on his contract and they wouldn’t have declined his option if he hadn’t requested it. This leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Perhaps Marko requested that the option not be picked up because he wanted a bigger contract? Perovic seems to believe that the team used his injury to renege on what was essentially a done deal and not pay him the money he believed himself to be owed.

He also had particularly harsh words for the Revolution ownership, who he says do not put much value in their soccer team, as they take a clear backseat to the New England Patriots on the Kraft Sports Group’s priority list.

This is hardly the kind of story the Revolution need right now, as the team is currently dealing with a grass-roots movement that has announced its intentions to attempt to oust Kraft Sports Group. Frankly, it’s darn near impossible not to be rooting for the group currently operating as the Fort Supporters’ Trust. There is no good reason why the New England MLS franchise should not be among the league’s crown jewels.
