The Baltimore Sun writes that Maryland offensive lineman Justin Lewis was thrown off the team Tuesday. Lewis turned himself in to the police in response to charges of second-degree assault, which stemmed from an alleged fight that took place June 26.
Maryland Lineman Justin Lewis Kicked Off Team After Assault Charge
The paper describes that alleged fight here. A bar manager in College Park claims that Lewis punched him after saying that he “looked at his girl.” The bar manager says the incident resulted in “facial trauma, emergency room and dental work.” The manager also says that the supposed “girl” wasn’t even present.
This, of course, makes it sound like Lewis was just drunk and itching to get into a fight. Of course, he hasn’t told his side of the story.
Lewis started 12 games for the Terrapins in 2010.
The Terps have had a huge number of players leave since new coach Randy Edsall was hired in January, but if these charges are true, it’s obviously hard to blame Edsall.
