LB Mike Vrabel will be a free agent whenever the NFL lockout ends and the next league year commences but, according to a report from College Football Talk, he may not be returning to the NFL at all. John Taylor reports that two sources say that Vrabel could be headed back to school.
Mike Vrabel To Ohio State Coaching Staff? ‘Very Good Chance’, Report Says
Two university sources have told CFT that, while it's not a done deal, "there's a very good chance" former Ohio State defensive lineman and current Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel will fill the vacancy on the defensive side of the ball. One source stated that an announcement could be made as early as this coming Monday.
The connection is that Vrabel played college football at Ohio State and his former teammate is the new head coach, Luke Fickell.
The idea of Vrabel coaching at Ohio State is nothing new. He’s said a number of times that he would be interested in coaching when his playing career is done, and he’s also said if he were to coach he would look at Ohio State first.
Vrabel has been in the league for 14 years so his play on the field has certainly declined as of late but he’s still a valued mentor and leader on any team. He said as recently as April that he’d like to return to the Chiefs so the timing of this report will raise some questions as to why Vrabel would make this move now.
